The Lango Sub-region has claimed the number one position in Uganda’s health sector performance for the 2025-2026 financial year. The official ranking was announced during the annual Joint Review Mission held at Speke Resort, Munyonyo.

According to the national regional league table, Lango achieved an impressive score of 87.1 percent. This marks a dramatic turnaround from the 24.7 percent recorded during the 2024-2025 financial year. Additionally, Lira City performed strongly, securing the second-best city ranking nationally behind Mbarara City.

Within the sub-region, Oyam District emerged as the best-performing local government. Lango comprises several districts including Lira, Alebtong, Otuke, Apac, Kwania, Amolatar, Dokolo, Kole, and Oyam, alongside Lira City. The region outperformed thirteen other sub-regions across Uganda.

Dr. Andrew Odur, Senior Executive Consultant at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, attributed the milestone to robust leadership, teamwork, and strong coordination among Chief Administrative Officers, LC5 chairpersons, and Resident District Commissioners. He noted that close collaboration between the regional referral hospital and local governments allowed stakeholders to address operational challenges in real time.

Health workers across various facilities also received widespread praise for their dedication to improving regional healthcare delivery. Furthermore, regional authorities credited accurate data management and improved documentation for providing the Ministry of Health with verifiable evidence of consistent progress.

While celebrating the achievement, health leaders have urged stakeholders to maintain momentum and sustain the rigorous standards to prevent any performance dips in the current financial year.
