Former Bukomansimbi District Woman MP Veronica Nanyondo has officially announced that she will not pursue an appeal following a High Court decision that upheld the parliamentary victory of National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Ruth Katushabe.

Nanyondo, running on the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, had previously petitioned the court to nullify Katushabe’s 206-vote margin win. She alleged that the Electoral Commission (EC) based its declaration on falsified results and forged declaration of results (DR) forms across seven polling stations in the district.

However, Justice Rosette Comfort Kania dismissed Nanyondo’s petition, ruling that the petitioner failed to provide sufficient and certified evidence to substantiate claims of forgery. According to the court, the uncertified DR forms submitted by Nanyondo could not be admitted as valid secondary evidence because she failed to prove that the Electoral Commission had refused to certify them. Furthermore, the court questioned the credibility of a handwriting expert presented by the petitioner, noting the expert relied on photocopies gathered by lawyers rather than original documents or direct interaction with polling agents.

Speaking to her supporters in Bukomansimbi following the judgment, Nanyondo expressed deep frustration with the judicial process. Having previously faced a dismissed vote recount application at the magistrate’s court, she stated she had lost all hope in obtaining a favorable outcome from the Court of Appeal.

Meanwhile, legal representatives for Katushabe welcomed the ruling, emphasizing that the court rightly affirmed the authenticity of the EC results. With the legal challenge officially put to rest, Katushabe remains the duly elected Woman Representative for Bukomansimbi District. Read more details on the Daily Monitor.
