Security forces in Kampala have uncovered a suspected illicit operation involving the manufacturing of fake motor vehicle and motorcycle number plates. The raid took place in Kabawo Zone, Mutundwe Parish, within the Lubaga Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the operation was executed by officers attached to the Nateete Police Division. Law enforcement acted swiftly on intelligence reports received on the morning of November 4, 2026, pointing to illegal fabrication activities in the neighbourhood.
Officers rushed to the residence of the prime suspect, identified as Ssekitoleko Aloysius. However, the suspect managed to evade capture by fleeing the scene before police could apprehend him.
A thorough search of the premises was subsequently carried out in the presence of local council leaders, the landlord, and area residents. Investigators uncovered a significant cache of items, including two tampered number plates, metallic figures ranging from zero to nine, and alphabetic letters from A to Z.
Additionally, police seized machinery believed to have been used in the production process, spray paint, Uganda flag stickers, and various designing materials. Authorities also recovered a Samsung mobile phone and several other items suspected to be stolen property. All exhibits have been carefully documented and secured to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police have launched a manhunt to track down Ssekitoleko so he can face prosecution for his alleged criminal activities. Meanwhile, law enforcement has issued a stern warning to the public against the production, possession, or utilization of fake number plates, reminding citizens that these actions constitute serious offenses. Communities are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
