The Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations officially commenced with the briefing of candidates across various examination centers nationwide. School heads have been strongly advised to properly guide their students to avoid any form of examination malpractice that could lead to disqualification or cancellation of results.
According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Spokesperson, Ms. Jennifer Kalule, a total of 203,809 candidates registered for this year’s national examinations. This marks a significant 22.4 percent increase from the 166,400 candidates who registered previously. Out of this year’s total candidature, 97,448 are females, accounting for 48 percent, while 106,361 are males, representing 52 percent.
Notably, the registered candidates include 41 inmates from the Upper Prison Secondary School in Luzira, consisting of one female and 40 males. Education programs within Uganda’s prisons continue to empower inmates to pursue academic careers and personal development while serving their sentences.
The written papers officially begin with History and Principal Mathematics, leading up to a diverse schedule that concludes on November 26 with various local language assessments. Ms. Kalule noted that these candidates are pioneers who previously sat for their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) under the competence-based assessment model introduced for lower secondary schools.
While the full UACE curriculum has not yet been completely overhauled, UNEB has aligned its assessments to reflect the competence-based guidelines provided by the National Curriculum Development Centre. Authorities continue to emphasize secure, innovative, and inclusive testing under this year’s national assessment theme.
