Ugandan political actors and parties are being strongly encouraged to seriously consider a path of inclusive dialogue. Observers note that embracing the concept of consociationalism, as proposed by Gen. Saleh, could offer a viable framework for managing the country’s diverse political landscape and preventing polarization.

Consociational democracy is traditionally characterized by power-sharing arrangements that ensure major social and political groups have a voice in governance. Proponents argue that introducing such a model in Uganda could help bridge deep-seated political divisions and build lasting consensus among competing factions.

Achieving meaningful progress requires all political parties to set aside narrow partisan interests and engage in constructive conversations about the nation’s future. A genuine national dialogue would provide a platform to address systemic challenges, reduce political tensions, and chart a more stable course for the East African nation.

Stakeholders across the political spectrum are therefore urged to reflect on these governance models and participate actively in shaping a unified political environment. Read more details about this perspective in the Daily Monitor.
