An official statement from Kenya Airways confirms that Uganda's opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye has been cleared to travel to Uganda from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where he has been 6:00am.
The opposition leader had boarded Kenya Airways flight no KQ410 that was slated to land at Entebbe airport this morning. According to Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer Titus Naikuri, Dr. Besigye will be departing from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA) for Entebbe International Airport at 1750hrs.
A statement from the CEO added: "Dr. Besigye was earlier denied boarding on KQ 410/11th May at 0800hrs following information from Kenya Airways internal intelligence sources that the aircraft would not be allowed to land at the Entebbe International Airport if he was on board. Dr. Besigye thus could not board the aircraft as Kenya Airways had to first ascertain this information without inconveniencing the other passengers destined for Entebbe"
The airline has also apologized to Dr. Besigye for the inconveniences this may have caused him. He is set to travel with wife Winnie Banyima to Uganda.
