Shops in Kampala did not open on July 7, 2011
Most shops and shopping arcades in Kampala did not open on Wednesday as part of the sit down strike announced by KACITA a few days back. The traders were met by the Minister for Trade and Industry, Amelia Kyambadde to try and look into the matter and come up with long lasting solutions.

The traders are complaining about the rent that is charged in dollars, the shilling depreciating against the dollar and the quack investors who the traders say are instead indulging in jobs that could be done by the locals.

In the meeting the Ministers had with the traders, KACITA was asked to help in identifying the fake investors who could be deported if it turned out that they did not have proper papers.

In a related development, parking attendants were also not on the streets, so parking on the streets of Kampala was free and it is likely to cross over to Thursday.
