           Kakira Sugar
The problem has been on for sometime now but it got to alarming levels when one of the supermarkets in Ntinda was charging Ugx 5,000 per Kg. That was not all, you had to take a maximum of two kilograms per customer.

If you took one kg and bought other items less than Ugx 5,000, you could not walk out with that sugar. Walking out of this particular supermarket to try else where did not even make matters any better because much as they did not have limits on how much you had to buy over and above the sugar, the price was Ugx 8,000 per kilogram.

It is at this time that sweet fruits, sweet potatoes, honey and sugar canes are supplementing sugar that is biting at all levels. The supermarket attendants were observing the strict rules on sugar.

One lady picked as many as 6kgs ignoring the polite notice that was clear in black and white. "You are allowed up to two kgs per customer and if you are taking 1kg, you must have bought other goods not less than 5,000/- Shs.

The lady picked as many as 6kgs and made her way to the counter, she was told that they will only receive her money for 2kgs. She simply gave up on buying sugar  for that day and dashed out of the supermarket to a local government car that was waiting.

Shops are really making a killing out of this sugar issue. This means that for whoever buys sugar in this market will have to spend a minimum of 10,000/-
