Uganda's Electricity Regulatory Authority has increased the tariffs with effect from January 15, 2012. The tariffs for domestic consumers has increased from Shs 385.6 to 524.5 per unit and commercial consumers now stand at Shs487.6 from 358.6 per unit.
The tariffs for medium industries have shot from Shs333.2 to 458.9, per unit while large industries are now at Shs312.8 from 184.8, per unit.
The tariff for street lights has increased from Shs364.3 to 488.7 per unit. The increase is aimed at sustaining the power sector according to the regulator.
The Electricity Regulatory Authority is charged with the responsibility of generation, distribution and transmission of electricity energy in Uganda.
