Over 103 Kenyan websites including that of the police and treasury were hacked into by an Indonesian hacker known as Direxer. The sites were defaced for lack of proper security. This forced the government to take the websites offline through the Cyber Incidence Response Team (CIRT) based at the Communications Commission of Kenya.

The attack was low level according to one of the officials to the extent of not warranting the intervention of CIRT. Getao Katherine, the E-Government Directorate secretary said; "We are making every effort within our resources to restore the websites and protect them from future attacks."

The sites are still off as officials figure out how the hacker got access to the codes.
