The 12th version of the Kora Awards were held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Dec 30, 2012. Nigeria's P-Square, US rapper Chris Brown and his girl friend Rihanna attended though according to media reports, the event that was slated to take place on December 29 was postponed to the next day after Chris Brown missed his flight. The awards dubbed 'African Grammy Awards' saw Uganda's Juliana Kanyomozi winning in the category of 'Best Female Artist from Eastern Africa'. Juliana beat the likes of Marya from Kenya, Helen Berhe and Asther Aweke from Ethiopia, Saida Karoli of the Wachekekya fame and Ikraan Caraale from Somalia. The award of Best Male Artist from Eastern Africa went to Jean Pierre Nimbona aka Kidum from Burundi with his song 'Mulika Mwizi' featuring Sana. Juliana expressed her gratitude and thanks through her wall: "Sometimes I run out of words to express my happiness and gratitude. I won the Kora for the best Female Artist East Africa. Thank you Kora for the recognition. Thank you all my loving fans from the bottom of my heart for always lifting me up. My heavenly father, you have blessed me beyond, how can I ever pay you back? You are indeed faithful." 'I am Ugandan' is the song that led Juliana to win the Kora award and she did not leave out the team she worked with on the I am Ugandan project that included the Tusker Project Fame 2 winner, Esther Nabaasa, Steve Jean, Kaweesa, Michael Fingers and Onoh. Meanwhile, Kidum did Haturudi Nyuma featuring Juliana but going by the track, the sky is the limit for our stars.
