Youth Minister Opens a Twitter account to clear the space that he was misunderstood.
While speaking to youth from Kajara Development Cooperative Savings Society in Ntungamo District a few days back, State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Ronald Kibuule was among others concerned about the way young people dress these days.
In his speech, the 29-year-old minister with two wives and also MP for Mukono North talked about the mini skirts and the sagging trousers, but the outburst came in when he said that police officers should not even listen to women who come reporting a case of rape and are skimpily dressed, it's as though they are asking to be raped.
Radio stations, Newspapers and social networks had the minister featured as a news item and a topic of discussion yesterday. The Uganda Youth Minister felt that the best way to reverse this was to open up a Twitter account and clarify his position, which he did.
On opening up, these were some of the statements:
"Never in my address did I okay rape against women, instead I advised the young people to always dress decently."
"I will continue to preach respect for the girl child and women not only as Minister but also as a Member of Parliament, father and husband."
"I had a +ve engagement with youth from Ntungamo discussing employment but unfortunately the Monitor press distorted my statement"
This is when Daily Monitor came up with the audio version of what the Minister said and since then, the 23-hour-old account with a total of 43 tweets, all about what he said vis-a-vis what he meant has not seen any new tweets in the last 19 hours.
