Tito Tong is a Ugandan based tycoon from Juba. He is the owner of Mengo based Monalisa Bar, opening up another on Entebbe road in Lweza plus other businesses in and around the city. He recently got himself on the wrong side of the law when his Merc, the only one in East Africa (according to him) was spotted with two personalized number plates.
It originally had red number plates, he paid Shs 48m in taxes plus Shs 6m for the TITO customized registration plate which is the norm, but the same car was spotted with TONG plates.
The authorities at Nakawa were forced to impound the white merc. In trying to explain, a relative to the tycoon gave her side of the story;
"Get the details from a reliable source. That red number was it's first registered number under Desh then, the TITO plate was registered just last week after paying taxes. The TONG is for a Range Rover not SL."
From the above explanation, it turns out the TONG number plate is for a Range Rover and that it's also being used on the white merc, at least from the pics.
After clearing with the authorities, the tycoon posed with some of the cops to celebrate the moment with this caption; "It has been hectic but finally I'm done with URA on Benz issue kaboom."
Customized number plates are transferable. For example, one customized number plate can be transferred to another car (through URA), but that's not what is happening here. In this case, it's one car having two number plates which is wrong and the more reason it had to end up in Nakawa.
