The Miss Uganda pageant was held yesterday at Speke Resort Munyonyo. Leah Kalanguka (23) from IGANGA District beat the other contestants. She replaces Stella Nantumbwe aka Ellah, the only Ugandan housemate left in the Big Brother House.
More on Miss Uganda
Leah promised to encourage the youth to take on commercial agriculture as a way of fighting poverty. This year's event was premised on the theme of 'Promoting Agricultural Entreprenuership among the youth.' It's been 20 years since a beauty queen came from the East with the last one being Linda Bazalaki in 1994.
Bootyliscious Desire Luzinda was among the entertainers of the night with Capital FM's Flavia Tumusiime and KFM's Roger Migisha as the MC's.
"I was overwhelmed when my name was read as the winner. I could not have won this pageant if it was not for the grace of God," Leah said shortly after being crowned.
Like it was in the case for Phiona Bizzu, even Leah Kalanguka has got tongues wagging. The MC of the event Roger Mugisha had this to say following the various complaints;
"She had the highest score according to the 6 judges , she is from Kamuli and was crowned miss Uganda 2014-2015. If you don't participate in elections, Big brother etc..Never complain when go getters take action. Congratulations Leah You believed and have achieved. The 'Angelina Jolies' of Uganda think that some Gps satellite will track them down to win a title that requires voluntary participation."
