Pilao maestro, Salim Uhuru, of the Uhuru Restaurants in Kampala was over the weekend arrested by Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) officials for smuggling rice into the country. A container that was declared to have cement was found to have tiles, cooking oil and bags of rice. This led to the clearing agent to disappear.
Salim Uhuru later showed up to have keen interest in the rice and that's when officials held him briefly to help with the investigations. He was later released on bond.
However, the NRM Chairperson has come out saying that if URA has the proof that those are his items, he is ready to pay because the money is available. According to URA, only Shs40 million was paid compared to the over Shs100 million after assessing the goods in the container.
