"The will of the people has finally prevailed. It's a triumph of Truth and Justice. THANK YOU for all your invaluable contribution towards this historic achievement. I will always honour and jelously guard the sanctity of the social contract and oath of office made today. May the good Lord reward and bless you all."
That was the post that the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, made shortly after his swearing in ceremony. Singer Red Banton performed his Sija Kuva Kampala hit for the Lord Mayor as he made his way to office.
Earlier on, the Lord Mayor had expressed his fears that the day set for the swearing in was the very day he was supposed to be appearing in court up country. He also wondered why every other person including those who could say; "I Solomon Ataffa' had been sworn in but not him.
It should be recalled that the earlier date coincided with the visit of the South Korean and Turkey President's visits something that will would have over stretched the authorities in providing security for all. It's for this reason that the swearing in ceremony was postponed to June 6, 2016.
Congratulatory messages with his favorite line, 'Omuloodi Waali' have since been trickling in.
Meanwhile, in the list of Ministers that was released on Monday, Hon. Betty Kamya was appointed as Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority and Hon. Benna Namugwanya as the Minister of State for Kampala Capital City Authority.
