Bebe Cool has requested to be excluded from all local awards

Like any other awards, they all receive a fair share of criticism from pundits, fans or disgruntled nominees. Hipipo Awards have been around for some time now after assuming the position that Pearl of Africa Music Awards used to enjoy.

Last Saturday, the HiPipO Awards were held at Serena Hotel and Bebe Cool, like it has been the case in the previous awards, emerged the best, this was the congratulatory message from the organisers.

"Congratulations to the Music Icon of the Decade: 2006-2016 aka Artist of the Decade: 2006-2016"

No doubt, Bebe Cool has had a smooth musical journey as seen from his past hits like; 'Love You Everyday', 'Kabulengane', 'Sente', 'Everywhere I Go' and 'Freedom' among others.

In their cartoon section, Monitor's Sqoop Mag featured Bebe Cool this week . The depiction indicated that Bebe Cool was in bed with the organisers of the Hipipo awards and that is the more reason the Tombawala singer ends up winning most of the categories he's nominated in. He won (4) awards..

"I was touched when I saw a news paper that I trust in Uganda putting up a cartoon impression that is definitely destructive to the music industry of Uganda....."

"Today, I have decided to officially ask all organising committees of any music competition/awards in Uganda to exclude my name in any nomination in Uganda. Let me concentrate on being appreciated beyond my borders rather than home because it is the way of a good Ugandan to fail a fellow achieving Ugandan both locally and in the diaspora."

Bebe did not forget his just released 'Nana Nana' video, the very first one in the year 2017.

"Finally for those who believe in me, the year begun yesterday when I released my first single for 2017 called Nana Nana. I promise, I will raise the pride of all my supporters even more these coming years because I don't sing for awards but people. For those who are competing with me musically, competition is healthy as long as it's positive and don't expect me to favour you musically."
