The International Criminal Court(ICC) has issued an arrest warrant to the Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir over alleged war crimes. It is the first of its kind issued to a sitting president. However Omar Al-Bashir has rejected the arrest warrant saying it is a form of New Colonialism.
He has denounced the ICC saying "We will not submit to you, we will not kneel, This is the new Sudan" This was at a rally in Khartoum yesterday.
As a result licences of over 10 Non Governmental Organizations(NGOs) have been revoked under the pretext of mixing aid and politics. These include Save the Children UK, Oxfam, Medecins and Sans Frontiers among others. The UN Secretary General has asked Sudan to reconsider its decision as the lives of many are at stake and this could cause irrevocable damage on the largest country in Africa.
Africa is sending a high level delegation to the ICC so that they can delay the arrest. However Sudan does not seem like prepared to hand over their leader to the ICC claiming that they are not party to the court and therefore it has no business it the matters of Sudan.
