The tenure for Justice Faith Mwondha has been renewed and she is now free to occupy the office of Inspector General of Government (IGG). The Deputy Raphael Baku who had been vetted by the parliamentary appointments committee has been sent on indefinite leave.

Her appointment letter was hand-delivered by the principal private secretary Amelia Kyambadde. There had been a stand off by some members of parliamentary appointments committee citing some of these as the reasons for dropping the IGG

  • That Mhondha has been the best IGG since that office was established in 1986 but that withstanding she lacked respect for other government institutions.
  • She has undermined the Speaker of Parliament and his Deputy.
  • She is not above the law and cannot defy the arm of the legislative government
  • Without Parliamentary approval, there will be far reaching implications of her work as the ombudsman.

This will put the matter to rest though the previous office bearers were all vetted by the appointments committee before they could assume office unlike Justice Faith Mwondha who refused to meet the same committee.
