A 16 year old girl from Busia town went to Namatala Police Post to report a case of rape but did not get any positive help where she reported the matter. The girl was raped by three men and shortly after the incident, she went straight to the police.

The officer on duty simply laughed at her blaming her for all that had happened and also refused to take a statement from her. On failing to get help from this police station, the gilr forwarded the matter to Mbale Central Police Station. While there, she was asked to pay Shs 5,000/- for medical examination.

She did not have the money. The police spokesperson in charge of Eastern region, Ibbin Ssekumbi was sorry about the incident and promised that those responsible would be brought  before the disciplinary committee. Meanwhile, Mr. Ssekumbi adds that rape victims are not subjected to any payment once being examined by a police doctor.
