South Africa and Mexico will kick off the opening match at 5:00pm Uganda time at the Orlando Stadium on Friday Jun 11, 2010 in Soweto after musicians like R.Kelly and Hugh Masakela performing at the opening ceremony.
At 9:30pm Uganda local time Uruguay will play against France marking day 1 of the FIFA world cup 2010 opening matches.
On Thursday night FIFA President Blatter was evidently happy to be in South Africa and said: "Dear friends in football FIFA is ready to be in South Africa and I'm very happy to be tonight in Soweto. Football is not a game but it unites people"
Nelson Mandela will attend the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2010 in Soweto.
Meanwhile In Kampala, bigger screens have been put in most bars and many are expected to reap big from the games. Nakivubo Stadium will be the public viewing center for the opening matches.
